Will I never learn? Any of y'all that know me personally, or even only through my blog, have already figured out that I tend to bite off more than I can chew. Hell, more than I can digest. The big grrrl job took gave me an unexpected jolt this week, but I powered through.
Mid-week, I was the luckiest grrl in the tri-state area—I went to see Mary Kay Andrews speak/read at Borders, and she is a HOOT. What a treat to finally meet her in person after so many emails and phone calls. Normally, I'd say the bestest part was having a soir bite with her afterwards, but the giddy pseudo-subversive in me was equally thrilled to hear her speak not one but TWO naughty words into the microphone in Borders. YEAH!
Kathy (her real name) is having a SWEET giveaway with Apartment Therapy wherein you can WIN a free week at her "Fixer Upper" on Tybee Island, The Breeze Inn. She brought me a souvenir tee from the Breeze Inn; I've entered the giveaway and solemnly swear that if I am lucky enough to win, I'm inviting 4 lucky junkers to hang with me, and mandating that the inimitable MKA stay with us. Wouldn't that be a killer vacation?
BTW, if you haven't bought the book yet, do so ASAP. She made the NYT bestseller list the first week (and we want to keep her on it). She's promised us each a pony if she remains there.... It's really, really good (as all of hers are)!

The paycheck job might be kicking me, but that doesn't mean I can't sneak in an estate sale or two before I punch the clock:
Shut up. You had me at rhinestone alarm clock.
Here's the entire small-haul for the week. See, I AM capable of exercising a teensy bit of restraint. Following, only, a budget-busting PA trip 2 weeks ago. In reality, there just wasn't good pickings this week. I fear, my dears, that I got the ONLY good stuff in the DC area this weekend. Seriously, the cabinet is my fave—found at a yard sale. You heard me. I went to a sweet yard sale run by 2 octogenarians. Their prices were all over the map. The cabinet cost me less than the rhinestone alarm clock (bought at an estate sale), but the woman was selling patterns for $8 apiece. Considering that I'm jonesing for vintage patterns to make those sweet flowers featured in CL or somesuch, I hesitated. I reckon a pattern is a pattern and it won't matter one whit whether it's vintage or not. She can keep her patterns. But I'm taking that dirt-cheap cabinet.
Couldn't resist this upright Underwood at the estate sale. No surprise, since I'm a sucka for typewriters. {I even spaced on it when I found the cache of alarm clocks, and went back 6 hours later....} This one is FILTHY. I've hosed it twice, Lysoled it, and am considering sandblasting it. It's still filthy. It was only $6 and considering my typewriters are selling faster than I can find them, I need to make this work. Lisa, via Facebook, commented that they aren't selling at all in Seattle, and I have one word for her: WONKS. The DC area is crawling with them. Wait, I decorate with vintage typewriters. 'Nuff said.

In recent weeks, I've had 3 things happen that have made me—MOI—blush. I've been asked to be a guest blogger on 2 other blogs, so you just might be on VRS/Sue overload. Who would've thought that I actually have more to talk about?!?
AND! Unbeknownst to me, Keri listed me on Blogs.com as one of her "top 10" antique/vintage blogs", which made me squeal! Keri, I can't thank you enough. Beijos, beijos!

Right now, I'm more tired than a one-legged grrl at a .... well, you know. I inexplicably got a fire under my patootie today and primed 5 pieces of furniture, finishing 3 of them with a top coat. I was a painting/cleaning/yardworking queen today, but am a much more organized junker today. I needed to do so; Chartreuse's sale is next weekend, and my very first auction is a mere 10 days away. I need to PREPARE.
XOXOX
Hope your junking weekend was LARGE!
Whew, tired from just READING about all you have done! Love your humor - thanks for it (think rhinestone clock) and LOVE the cabinet. I would have jumped at it too. No junking for me these days, so living vicariously through you. Thanks girl!

Not true! I stopped at a yard sale this weekend and wound up with eight quilts. Sort of by accident, actually. Now I have to figure out what to do with eight quilts.

So, you have finally come to the dark side (yardsales)! I know you hate them, but isn't it fun to find that one thing like your cabinet? I just wish we didn't have to sift through so much Toys R Us crap to find it!

You know.... gasoline is the fastest way to clean that typewriter. It takes off the grim so fast, you'll want to keep a glass jar of it handy (outside) forever & ever to take care of projects just like this one :-P And it sniffs up good too... what can I say I like the smell of gas lol

Hey..you scored with those children's books! I'm a sucker for kids books! By the way...I've been finding vintage patterns for a while at the Goodwill...if you need some, let me know. I've got some that aren't really worth anything. (From the 70's and 80's).

I adore your rhinestone clock!!! My head spins when I see what treasures you are able to find. I always feel like the shopping in this area yields a lot of used baby toys (over those!) and not a lot else. I always head to my dad's for treasures. You're my "finds" hero! xo-Mel
