Now I know for sure that I am experiencing PWSD (post Warrenton stress disorder). I went to 2 estate sales today, 2 thrift stores, and 2 antique malls, and just wandered around aimlessly. I'd pick something up, carry it around, decide I don't want it. Wander out. I even went back inside one sale 3 times, wavering on buying a table, but ultimately bailing. Nothing seemed interesting or intriguing or worth it.
Hell, my basement and storage unit have better things than I saw today.
Clearly the only solution is to relive Warrenton one more time and get it out of my system....
One thing the guidebooks, websites, and magazine articles don't tell you is that Warrenton/RT is estrogen-heavy. There's girls girls grrrrls everywhere. Oh, sure, there's loads of vintage tools and salvage, sports junk, and gas-station detritus for the dudes, but there's a helluva lot more purty stuff than anything else. A little too often, you'll also see hordes of crazy matchy-matchy women jumping out of Escalades in pink boots, swigging diet Lone Star or somesuch.
But there's a vibe going on here that's very Lauper-esque. Above is Punkie's, which Debbie urged me to attend, and where I drooled on that velvet Rottweiler painting. It's a B52s tiki surf merry-go-round of color.
Glitter, rhinestones, chunky turquoise anyone? No idea whose booth this is...
Or this one, but her junque sure is purty!
Get a load of the much-heralded Junk Gypsy. Honestly, though, I prefer their website. Does that make me horrible? I think it's because the tent is always jam-packed with customers, such that it feels like a tourist destination that they're desecrating. It's my little secret, dammit!
This isn't necessarily part of the GGW oeuvre, but I wanted you to see this bit of love. Suzy, eat your heart out. The velvet is the yummiest cinnamon hot chocolate. It'd already sold ($750—worth every penny), and I nearly swooned.
Finally, no GGW post is worth its yayas without showing the booth of the queen of WILD: Debbie!
She'll kill me for taking this photo while they were still setting up. I didn't take a photo of her (long story involving a childhood of obsessively posed family photos, featuring a supergawky adolescent), but basically her booth is Home Base for anyone shopping. She's within spitting distance of Theresa/Garden Antiques and Carolyn Westbrook Home, so Elizabeth's not exaggerating when she calls it the Bermuda Triangle. Not to mention its clever and fortuitous proximity to Bubble Lounge.
And she isn't blowing smoke up your tulle when she tells you how charming Cat Daddy is. Even if she didn't want to do Warrenton anymore, my money says he'd do it alone, if only to talk to the gals. If you want another revealing peak at him, which is dead on, check out Chippys post. I nearly spewed my DDP when I saw it!
Honestly, they have the BEST junking stories and know EVERYONE.
Can't wait until next time....
OK, I've just been dying over these posts of your trip to Warrenton. I just couldn't bring myself to comment be 'cawze I am so damn jealous!
I want to go out and cozy up to Cheryl and Chris and hang with all the best Texus junkers, just like you! It just reinforces how lame junkin and antinquin' in the east is.
My eyes were wide open after a week spent in Wisconsin on a business trip. ( I had to ship home all my loot, the shopping was so awesome)
Thanks for sharin' anyway. It was a good rush for me, ahhhh. xo, suzy

I love your description of Punkie's. Spot on, especially the Lauper reference. The ladies do like to play. I'm just waiting for the day we have to start keeping beer and beads to throw to the ladies for showing us their...spirit!
Girl, you and your DDP. You crack me up. You're right about one thing...for us to be at the back of the show, we do seem to be the meeting up locale. Maybe it DOES have something to do with the proximity of the beer garden. I always thought it was just us or the sound of ice in a shaker. Did you see Moonlight Hollow's post on the fight for C.D. Talk about a hoot although it got a little racy, wink wink! Hope you're coming back in the fall for a longer stay! Thanks for the laugh and the shout out.
