Last weekend was looking pretty dismal for estate sales, until I rolled up to an unassuming little family-run sale. Wait, WHAT? Are those cubbies in the basement? I literally dove over some grannies to get to them, and ran upstairs and paid before I even started looking around! Upon closer inspection (especially now, a week later), they're not THAT great. They're newer than I'd hoped, and have a weird veneer, and the slats are kinda thin. But, they're cubbies nonetheless!
The sweet mini ladders were also irresistible, as well as 4 hatboxes (my downfall) The black ones are from Woodward & Lothrop, a now-defunct DC department store (RIP 1887-1995), and are a surefire seller. I picked up a few other tchotchkes, and then headed back down to the basement for another look-see.
The heavens parted, and I snatched up this huge old wire basket. The family looked askance at me (I get that a LOT) and laughingly said they were going to throw it out, convinced that no one would want it. HA, naivete can be so charming.
I would probably mow people down for those cubbies too!
Sweet shoes and LOVE the Woodies hatboxes!

I love the comments I get on some of the stuff I want at sales. My favorite is when they tell me "it can be painted and will look great". I think it looks great as it is, but I just smile and Say "you're right".
Love the cubbies.
